I'm curious how others faced with down-sizing, restructuring, "let's just get rid of resp" proved their worth to the powers that be? NSG and the MD's want us but here their opinion doesn't count. Our facility is doing the song-and-dance of restructuring. All of us are frustrated (NSG &RESP) because we see little things that would solve major problems in pt care. Administration wants big solutions...but we're not too sure about what if any impact it will have in improving pt care. Also, part of our staff are LPN's. A great mix of therapists as they have a dual degree. They are worried about being pulled away from respiratory and frankly-we don't want to lose them! They are great therapists. Any ideas? Some think because NY lisc. doesn't allow anyone but an RT to do certain things-we're safe. I'm not betting on it.
